Permacouture are a leading sustainability organisation showcasing fashion and textiles. They approached me to create some tableware for an event they run called ‘dinner to dye for’.
The idea is to educate guests on the use of natural dyes, then treat them to a meal that’s prepared using the very same dyes. This was an ideal fit with my increasing interest in using oxides rather than commercial glaze stains.
Technically, the project was a fascinating challenge and after some intensive research, I eventually decided on a triaxial blend of cobalt, copper and iron oxides.
As you can see from the prepared glazes shown here, these colours work beautifully together and they created a subtle aesthetic blend across the 28 plates I produced for the meal.
